FAQS

You Ask - I Answer

  • HOW LONG DOES EACH THERAPY SESSION TAKE?
Each session will be kept at 1 Hour 30 Min unless a different arrangement is agreed. Many other therapists do 50 Mins to 1 Hour sessions but I believe that it is too short for everything to be covered or that the session will feel too rushed. 1 Hour 30 Min will give us sufficient time to achieve our session goal.
  • WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING MY FIRST THERAPY SESSION?
For the first session, we will first do a mental state check-in, where we explore any existing struggles or issues that you are facing and we work to ground you mentally and emotionally. We will identify, if necessary, any root causes of the issue and observe how you are reacting to the cause(s) or the trigger(s). After gaining a clearer and more accurate perspective of the situation, we will identify a particular goal or outcome that you want to attain or is the best for you at that point in time. Following, I will apply appropriate therapeutic techniques to help you attain that outcome. It is okay if, at any point in time, you feel lost or find yourself in a cycle of "I don't know"s, we will work together to help you "know".
  • HOW MUCH DOES THERAPY COST?
Our fees are $180 per session (online video call) and $250 per session (in person). Each session is 1 Hour 30 Min long. Special Promo: THE FIRST SESSION IS 50% OFF ($90 for online, $125 for in-person). I believe that therapy should be inexpensive and each session is priced reasonably and one of the lowest among other private therapy services. If the cost is still too high to bear, I provide subsidies for students and those who are struggling financially. Feel free to contact me to enquire more.
  • WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ONLINE VIDEO CALL AND IN PERSON THERAPY?
Online video calls will be done through Google Meets (I will send you a link) and In Person will sessions will be held in a therapy room located in: Primz Bizhub, 21 Woodlands Close #06-30, Singapore 737854 or Thomson V Two, 11 Sin Ming Road, #B1-14, Singapore 575629 (Upper Thomson) The structure and quality of the therapy session will be the same for Online Video Calls and In Person. It is solely up to your preference.
  • HOW MANY SESSIONS DO I NEED TO ATTEND?
It varies for every individual. If you are seeking immediate support on a current situation, it is possible that one session is able to address the issue and meet your needs. However, oftentimes, our "crisis" is like a volcano that erupts after years of underlying issues bottled up within us. If you are keen to unravel these issues and heal from the past, multiple sessions will be needed to reach your therapeutic goal. I will try my best to help you attain your therapeutic goal in as few sessions as possible without rushing the process. The number of sessions required can also vary due to evolving goals and needs during the process of therapy.
  • WHAT IS EXPECTED OF ME IN THERAPY?
There is no need to prepare for the first session. If you are seeking therapy, there must be an underlying reason(s). It can be just a feeling or a well-thought-out reason of why you want help - from whatever you can provide, we will start exploring and diving deeper. It is okay if along the way we discover that there are other more important areas to address, therapy is a journey and the more we uncover, the more effective it will be. If you are feeling anxious or uncertain heading into therapy, let me assure you that is normal and you are not the only one feeling this way. Therapy can often feel daunting at the beginning and at times uncomfortable. However, as the saying goes, change is uncomfortable, and I assure you that this discomfort is the catalyst for the healing, peace, and strength you are looking for.
  • HOW CAN I BOOK FOR MY FIRST THERAPY SESSION?
You may reach out to me via WhatsApp (+65 62616126), the contact form on the Home page, or Instagram Direct Message (DM).
  • ARE YOU A PSYCHIATRIST?
No, I am a Counsellor, a Psychologist, and a Psychotherapist. A Psychiatrist is a Medical Doctor who specializes in Psychiatry and is qualified to officially diagnose and prescribe medications. A psychologist specializes in the study of behaviors and mental processes. This includes emotional and cognitive processes, how people interact with their environments, and how they interact with other people.
  • WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COUNSELLING AND THERAPY?
The function of counselling and therapy is largely similar. In both cases, we focus on the growth and healing of an individual by looking into the past, present, and future. Both work on processing emotions and tackling maladaptive personality traits/behaviours as well as learning strategies to resolve and manage challenges. Therapy goes one step further to address deep-rooted aspects of one's life. We identify & replace unhelpful thought and behavioural patterns. Therapy requires individuals to go deeper and to be more vulnerable.
